Dr Ken Apen
Dr Ken Apen, who was born in Ghana, has called Tamworth home for the past 12 years and now considers himself a local. After obtaining his primary medical degree at the University of Ghana Medical School, further training and career development has taken him to 5 countries on 4 continents: Ghana, England, South Africa, the United States of America and now Australia.
Dr Apen is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Australia and New Zealand (FRANZCOG), Ken services Tamara Private Hospital and is a Senior Staff Specialist at the Tamworth Hospital. He is Director of the Tamworth Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service (TOGS) @ 2 Dean Street, Tamworth where he consults privately.
Ken has an interest in minimally invasive Gynaecological surgery including laparoscopy, pelvic floor reconstructive surgery for pelvic floor prolapse, infertility, hysterectomyand general Gynaecology.
Ken's boutique Obstetric practice provides high level care (antenatal, delivery, post delivery) and a range of contraceptive choices in a family friendly facility. This service is supported by an experienced midwife and dedicated frontline staff.
Ken sits on a number of committees of RANZCOG and is a member of the American Association of Gynecological Laparoscopists, the International Urogynaecology Association and a Conjoint Senior Lecturer of the University of Newcastle.
Dr Apen is married to Dr Cathy Burns, an Orthopaedic Surgeon at Tamworth Hospital and has two sons who enjoy a range of sports.
