Dr Ian Smith moved to Tamworth from Sydney with the aim of contributing to the already high quality Urology service in the region.
He graduated from Medicine at Sydney University in 2004 and undertook his specialist training in Urology within Australia undertaking rotations in major teaching hospitals in Sydney as well as regional centres. He has spent 2015 in Victoria developing his laparoscopic minimally invasive surgical skills. These include laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, partial nephrectomy, and pyeloplasty. He has training in all benign and malignant urological practice including prostate conditions, lower urinary tract symptoms, and kidney stones.
He has a passion for teaching junior doctors, and looks forward to engaging with those who choose to undertake regional terms, ensuring the future of regional medicine in Australia stays strong. Having obtained his fellowship from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in the field of Urology in 2016 he looks forward to commencing his urological career in the community of Tamworth and surrounding regions.
